How Influencers Reshaped The Tech Industry Forever

The digital age we now live in has brought with it numerous technological and social changes. As tech rapidly advances we are swept up by even swifter social shifts. Social landscapes that remained unchanged for decades have been transformed within the space of a few years. And one of the most significant changes that has been born out of this rapid technological advance is the rise of influencers!

While it was the advent of social media and the rise of smartphones that brought about the influencer generation, we have now seen the tech sector become entirely reshaped by influencers. It isn’t often that we see a single industry so dramatically reshape the tech sector. Often it works the other way around. With new technologies and scientific breakthroughs moulding an industry into something new. So how exactly have influencers reshaped the tech industry?

The Value Of A Like

We can’t talk about influencers and social media without discussing the most valuable online currency. And we don’t mean Bitcoin. We are talking about likes. When social media first started, likes were nothing more than their name suggested. A way of expressing your pleasure at a post or picture. And this still holds true for a lot of people. But social media has become so integral to our global society that likes have become worth a lot of money.

A good way to think about it is like the stock market. Your shares in a company might be worth $1000 dollars. But this doesn’t mean you have that cash ready to spend right now. Likes now work in a similar way. If your posts accumulate a lot of likes, or your profile has a lot of followers, you are suddenly a lot more. But this value is only potential value until acted upon.

Likes have become one of the most powerful currencies on the planet. And the tech industry has warped around this idea in a massive way. It seems every year we are seeing more apps and programmes adding in social media features. And the fact that you can now buy automatic Instagram likes is proof of just how valuable likes have become. Entire industries are being constructed around helping influencers become more successful.

AI And Influencers

AI has become one of the main focuses of the technological world in recent years. And while AI development hasn’t been solely driven with influencers in mind, we are already seeing a huge shift in how AI is being used due to influencers. AI influencers are the new hottest trend on Instagram and TikTok. These completely digital profiles can generate content and post it without supervision. Which is potentially a very lucrative income stream for anyone with enough tech and business savvy to make it work.

But AI is also being used in more subtle ways. One of the main selling points of new smartphone models is the camera quality and additional camera features. And we have seen a huge increase in the number of phones that utilise AI in their photo editing systems. Most of the latest model phones can completely remove people or objects from photos using AI without sacrificing quality. And the AI enhancement tools are staggeringly good.

Now it is entirely possible that these developments would have come about without influencers. But the career of an influencer is often driven by their phone. So it is entirely possible that companies have been rushing their AI photo features to keep up with the booming influencer industry.

Social Media Marketing

Perhaps the most important impact that influencers have had on the tech industry is how they are now the premium marketing commodity. Previously tech companies had to rely on online adverts, reviews, and tech stores to push their products. But influencers have created an entirely new and powerful marketing system.

People are far quicker to trust the word of an influencer they like as opposed to a random online advert or an article in a magazine. Despite the fact that influencers can, and often are, sponsored. In the last decade or so we have seen a huge number of smaller tech companies rise to new heights due to their clever social media marketing tactics. Gaming tech companies in particular have seen huge success in this area. If one of the top gaming streamers uses a specific headset, it is very likely that their thousands of fans will buy the same one.

Tech influencers have also made the industry far more accessible as well. It is no secret that many schools are lacking when it comes to adequate education. And this slack is being picked up by influencers. There are thousands of amazing YouTubers providing amazing educational tutorials that are inspiring a new generation of coders, engineers, and scientists. And this is a huge boon for the tech industry!
